Turok: Son Of Stone Volume 2 (2008)
Fiction Review by The Gravedigger
01.17.10

The theme of these collected issues is domesticating animals. It begins with Turok already having found a wolf pup, which he trains. Then, a few issues later he manages to catch a horse and is able to ride it. However, the second issue with the horse there is no trace of the pet wolf or what happened to him, which I thought a little odd.

Turok manages to climb out of the valley but Andar is down below, injured, and he can't bring himself to abandon his friend. Later, an evil American Indian from the surface world falls into the valley and tries taking over a tribe that Turok and Andar had befriended. He wants to conquer a neighboring tribe and make them slaves--and ultimately, build an empire for himself. Turok and Andar manage to discredit him so that the cavemen won't listen to him any longer. The guy ultimately gets what's coming to him in basic comic book justice.

The Indian duo encounter some primitive cavemen who don't even know how to make fire. They also help a group of cavemen who live on an island consisting mostly of chalk, so they are not able to make flint spearheads or any tools out of stone. As a result, they live in pits and scavenge for roots and tubers.

It's not until the 9th issue that the dinosaurs are referred to as "Honkers", because of the noise they make. Previously, they used the word "Hoppers", since they are able to jump around.

I found this second hardcover book as entertaining as the first and look forward to more of Turok's early adventures.

Horror is the feeling of revulsion that usually occurs after something frightening is seen, heard, or otherwise experienced. It is the feeling one gets after coming to an awful realization or experiencing a hideous revelation. Horror has also been defined as a combination of terror and revulsion. We are horror... we are horror.net.
