This over-size softbound book collects seven werewolf tales illustrated by the late great Richard Corben. The first story, DEAD HILL, is black and white and takes place in the Dark Ages with a women about to be burned for being a were-witch. It has a "surprise" ending and a TALES FROM THE CRYPT feel to it. In THE BEAST OF WOLFTON Sir Hornrib and his big-breasted wife Chibata go the town of Wolfton which is being terrorized by a werewolf. He thinks he can be the one to get rid of the beast. But the creature kidnaps his wife and ends up having torrid sex with her. She, however, has a surprise for the werewolf and ends up cutting off his head with an axe. This story is continued in THE SPIRIT OF THE BEAST, which is about Chibata's adult son, John Wulv, who also has the werwolf curse. He gets the help of a starving peasant girl to lock him in a tower so he won't prey on the villagers, yet they are still murdered--by someone who is no longer starving. CHANGE...INTO SOMETHING MORE COMFORTABLE takes place in the modern age, with a werewolf on Halloween who finds out that humans aren't the only ones who wear masks that night. These are all decent enough werewolf tales but like most of Corben's work the prose isn't the strong point, the artwork is.
