This pseudo-documentary horror film actually manages to live up to the hype. The entire movie is shot like a home movie. A guy, Micah, and his girflriend, Katie, live together. One day he brings home a new video camera to record the weird things that have been happening around the house (strange noises, et cetera). They have a psychic come over and she explains to him that she's been haunted by this entity since she was eight years old and that it has followed her to this new house. He says it is a demon, not a ghost, and that he can't help them. Micah doesn't take this all very seriously and proceeds to videotape everything. He sets up the camera in the bedroom so it records them sleeping. And at first they see the bedroom door moving by itself. In the following days she has a bad nightmare, they are awakened by booming noises from downstairs and rush down to see a chandelier swaying. Micah wants to communicate with whatever it is but Katie keeps on begging him to stop it, that they'll only anger it more and make things worse. And they do get much worse when he decides to borrow a ouija board.
The effects are very minimal but effective, such as when they see the weird footprints leading into their bedroom and when Katie is pulled by her leg, by the invisible presence, out of the bed. It leaves a lot up to the imagination and creates an increasing sense of unease. It's the perfect horror movie to watch late at night, alone.
